SCHAFFHAUSEN,SWITZERLAND.RHINE FALLS.
Rhine Falls
20.01.2020
I travelled by train from Colmar in France to Schaffhausen in Northern Switzerland, near the German border. Schaffhausen is a large pleasant city, famous for the Rhine Falls, even though the falls are 5km away in Neuhausen. They are easy to get too by trolleybus or train. I took the trolleybus. On arrival in Neuhausen i followed the signs to the falls, down a steep hill. The falls are impressive and well worth the visit. At the falls is a Cafe and boat trips.----------------In Schaffhausen i visited Munot Castle , a 16th century fortification, on a hill surrounded by grape vines. Admission is free. Great views. ---------St. Johann church was visited , this is where the Bach festival is held.
The church built in 1248.---- There are 16th century fountains around Schaffhausen, very colourful.-----------The river Rhine flows through Schaffhausen, and i strolled along the Freier Platz by the riverside.-------I stayed at Hotel Kronenhof, Kirchhofplatz, which is 5 minutes from the rail station. I enjoyed this hotel and place.---

-- The population of Schaffhausen is over 34,000 and the altitude 403m. Public transport is mainly Bus and Trolleybus. The currency is the Swiss Franc. In Switzerland i used the Swiss Travel Pass which is worth enquering about. It can be used on trains, buses and lake ferries.Posted by alectrevor 07:48 Comments (0)
